Civilization six combat:

First ~70 turns: 3 melee units and 3 archers = one city. Use battering rams when they have walls.

Make sure to not waste any production. Try and get about 4 cities in this phase, and get a few horses.

After the first 70 turns your troops become obsolete, so work on infrastructure for a bit, and settle about 2 cities.

Starting from about turn ~110 to about turn ~155 you want to make an army of ~4 knights and some crossbowman. Mostly use the crossbowmen to pick off enemy troops, then use the knights to destroy the city.

Battering Rams > siege towers

When it is about turn ~160, make about ~4 field cannons.

Start building bombards (like 2) and musketmen when you can. Use bombards and field cannons to destroy the walls before going for the kill.

Around turn ~190 you want to start building a few infantry. Make a few knight and field cannon corps. Make an observation balloon to help out the bombards.

Around turn ~210 upgrade the bombards to artillery

Around ~220 building biplanes is an option. Also start to upgrade the knights into tanks.

Turn ~250 war should consist of a few infantry and tanks, and a bunch of artillery and field cannons.

Later in the game, around turn 275 to turn 300, get mechanized infantry, rocket artillery, modern armor, etc. use nukes and planes and all of that good stuff, and if you were doing well in the early game, you should be able to stomp here in the late game. Try and focus down the leaders, such as in culture and religion, so they can’t win.

Make sure to try and preserve the amount of promotions you have. When making a corp, always put a level 0 troop with a high level troop, this way you don’t waste experience. When you get a promotion, spend it ASAP, because you can’t earn experience if you still have a promotion to use.

It is a good idea to try and get level 4 knights when you start off, so your tanks will be able to throw multiple attacks at an enemy, which is very deadly.
